Aquarella App Reviews
Im a fan of all apps by Jixipix so I had to try this new app. I reallly love it. The watercolor effects are many and greatly varied. The results give you finely rendered watercolored images, the best Ive seen of any app. I love the choice of papers, and the wash is really nice too. I will update this after Ive played with it for a few more days. Great results with very little effort says it all so far.
…. (and this isnt necessarily a bad thing), theres a lot of tweaking to do at your end. This app comes with about 2 dozen preset filters to start with, half of them using the full array of colors, the other half using a two-tone process with a base color and a second accent "wipe". Beyond that, there are a handful of specific tools to fine-tune the process to your desires. Ive been playing with this app for a couple of days and still dont have any sense of competence with it. Seemingly minor changes in tuning create VERY different results. This isnt a compliant against the product as much as it is my lack of knowledge of the watercolor process. There are terms here I dont yet know, that kind of thing. I feel like a monkey in front of a keyboard: the potential is there to create a beautiful Shakesperean sonnet … but not (yet) the skill do do so except by chance. For a more intuitve product by the same company, I heartily suggest JixiPixs Portrait Painter. If, however, youre familiar with watercolor, this will give you far more capability to precisely tune your work of art.
Easy to use and fantastic results! I really appreciate the ability to save my presets. I own several apps from this company and recommend checking out all of the JixiPix products!
Great app!
This is so easy to use, and works great! I also bought Chalkspiration. Thank you, Jix Pix!
Wonderful app! I’ve used it on photos of my kids, on photos of flower arrangements and of photos of our vacations. Now I have lovely artwork that is more than just photography. So easy to use and many helpful presets. I loved doing watercolor when I was younger but didn’t have the patience. This solved that problem and I’m having so much fun!
I paid for this on the App Store, then as soon as I’m ready to save something in the app, it tells me I have to enter a serial number. Not ONCE since I’ve been purchasing apps on the Mac App Store have I ever been required to enter a serial number. Not only that, but they don’t even tell you where to find this serial number. The support page doesn’t say anything about how App Store purchasers are supposed to redeem or otherwise activate their product, but they’re more than happy to charge you again to buy it from their website. Even if this isn’t a scam, this is shoddy product support, and sloppy app management - obviously they uploaded a version of the app intended for their own website, not the App Store. At the end of the day, if I buy something through the App Store, I expect it to be ready to use and already active. Aquarella is a nice product and it does some cool stuff, but if I can’t even save my work, then what’s the point? Time to ask for a refund?
Fun app to explore watercolor painting possibilities with. This is for the amateur who wants to create a “pysudo-watercolor” painting, and for this it works fine. I would like to see greater control over the effects though to minimize or increase the watercolor effect. At $14.99 it’s a bit pricy for the amateur, but if youre a watercolorist as myself, its a nice way to explore painting possibilities.
